Ruffner serves as the Audit and Risk Management Committee Chair of the Board of Trustees. Ruffner lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with his wife, Penny. Their daughters Virginia, Libby, and Margaret are all former Merrie-Woode campers and counselors. Ruffner has served as President of McWane, Inc., since 1999, and previously worked as an executive in the banking industry in New York and Atlanta. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in philosophy and psychology, as well as a minor in economics, and earned his M.B.A. at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. Ruffner has volunteered on the boards of many local institutions, including the Birmingham Airport Authority, Birmingham Education Foundation, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, and Southern Research Institute. He presently serves on the boards of McWane, Inc., O’Neal Industries, Inc., and SouthState Bank.
