We offer riding for all skill levels, with a focus on helping girls grow comfortable and confident both riding and caring for horses.
horsemaster program
Camp Merrie-Woode’s hunt-seat riding program offers instruction in ring work, jumping, and trail riding with skills-based classes that ensure progressive development and camper safety. Classes are divided by skill level, and each level’s requirements provide a structured outline that enables campers to continue building their skills from one year to the next.
In 1978, Suzanne Henson established the Horsemaster Program, further enriching riding instruction at Camp. June and Main session campers can progress through five levels: Page, Yeoman, Squire, Knight, and Horsemaster. Each level comes with unique challenges, blending learning, teaching, and technical riding skills. A highlight of the program is the Drill Team Show – a choreographed performance that showcases superior horsemanship as riders execute intricate maneuvers to music.
