We have a variety of drama activities, including Improv, Drama Games, Acting, Stagecraft, and our bigger productions: the summer play and musical! These activities spark creativity and self-expression, allowing young girls to shine.
King’s Players Program
Theatrical performance has been a foundation of the Merrie-Woode experience since the early days of Camp, thanks to the vision of Dammie Day. Our current Drama Program has expanded from solely performing Follow the Gleam, a reenactment of the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, to include a June Session Play, Main Session Musical, and an August Session Play.
In 2005, Merrie-Woode introduced the King’s Players Program, a skills progression program for campers dedicated to the performing arts. Campers earn points within four diverse subject areas including Performance, Technical Theatre, Directing, and a Camp Service Project. Once a camper has accumulated enough points, she directs a performance for our Director’s Showcase. As a Director, she hosts auditions and rehearsals, oversees lighting and set design, selects costumes and accessories, and holds a Q&A session with the audience after the show.
