Our 5-week session is off and running! Between new campers, returning faces, and all our favorite traditions, Camp already feels full of energy as everyone settles in under Old Bald.

We are so fortunate to have 24 Junior Counselors this session! With a group that size, they’re split into two groups and rotate between learning JC curriculum and helping teach activities. They also each have buddy cabins! When a counselor is on her day off, a JC steps in to spend time with the cabin. It is always so much fun to watch the campers learn who their JC is!

With a group this big, no amount of team bonding is ever enough! One of the best (and funniest) ways we’ve found to connect as a cabin is through the low ropes course. Over the past few days, both JC groups have had the chance to take on the course, practicing teamwork, building trust, and sharing plenty of laughs along the way.

The JCs and their leaders go through the course in pairs, literally attached to one another, which makes every obstacle a little more challenging...and a lot more entertaining! From start to finish, low ropes is a very fun way for JCs and campers to learn to support each other, work through challenges, and to put the others first.

Main Session is here! We had an amazing Opening Day yesterday, and these campers jumped right into everything at Camp with so much enthusiasm. It has been so fun to see everyone settling in and already embracing Camp life.

It is always so special to watch reunions of old friends and the forming of new friendships. Opening Day was full of unpacking, activity sign-ups, and our Opening Campfire, when the whole camp gathers to sing our favorite camp songs together to kick off the session. We had our first full day of activities today, with campers diving into their day-to-day Camp schedule, and we ended the night with one of our favorite evening programs: Deck the Counselor!

Each cabin creates a skit, dance, or performance, and putting it together on this first full day of Camp serves as a great early bonding opportunity. It’s always amazing to see creativity come to life so quickly and to watch cabins begin to find their personalities. Our lovely JCs (all 24 this session!) hosted the evening, bringing great energy (and jokes) as they introduced and cheered on every cabin while we watched them perform from youngest to oldest.

Some highlights from tonight included a handful of makeovers, lots of cabin name puns, and two passionate dance performances from the cabins of Camelot and Bum's Rest. There was even a cabin that dressed up as the leadership team, aka "Robin’s Nest"! The laughter and cheers from the crowd made it clear that this tradition continues to be a Camp favorite.

We are so excited that our Main Session campers are here! It’s been such a fun start to the session already, and we’re looking forward to all that’s ahead. There’s a lot more to come, and we’re so glad to have everyone here!!

June 20th: Final Shows!

Our first session of the summer is wrapping up! While we are so sad to see these campers go, they certainly go out with a bang!

The last day of Camp looks a little different from our usual routine. After breakfast, campers spend some time packing before heading to Castle in Chapel (which we’ve lovingly coined “Chastle”). The youngest three cabins finally get their turn as Castle hosts, and after leading us in a song, we move into one of the most meaningful parts of the morning: awards!!

Here at camp, we offer levels and certificates across a variety of activities, and our final day is our chance to celebrate the hard work and progress these campers made over the past three weeks. This year, awards were given for passing levels in Kayaking, Archery, Tennis, Tumbling, Riding, and Mountaineering. We also celebrated a record number of new inductees into the Bullseye Club and Dam Swimmers (see the campers reciting the Dam Swimmers' pledge below!).

Following lunch and rest hour, we head into one of the biggest highlights of the session: Final Shows! Campers have been preparing all session long in Riding, Dance, Acting, Music, and Tumbling, and it is so fun to watch their friends and counselors cheer them on. We kick things off at the covered arena with the drill team, whose “Lion King”-themed performance featured costumes and even painted horses. From there, we move to the Castle and King Arthur’s Court to watch the rest of the performances. Some standout moments included Michael Jackson–inspired Tap and Hip Hop routines, a guitar class performing “Riptide,” and a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders–inspired Tumbling routine.

To close out the afternoon, we gather at the tennis courts for the grand finale: the Camper & Counselor Tennis and Pickleball tournament finals. Both matches were incredibly close, and it was so much fun to watch (and quietly cheer on) these duos!

As the session comes to a close, we can’t help but feel both proud and a little bittersweet. These campers have grown so much over the past few weeks, and we have loved every second spent with them under Old Bald. Watching bonds form and a mutual love of Merrie-Woode develop has been truly special. As a favorite campfire song says, “we’ll all be back again next year!” Until then, we’ll be holding onto these memories and celebrating what an amazing June session we had!

With the end of the session getting closer, there are a ton of special traditions that happen in the last week of camp! This morning was the Bum’s Prank. The oldest cabin, Bum’s Rest, plans a prank for one of the last breakfasts of camp, complete with a theme, costumes, music, and more!

This year, the theme was America, more specifically “God Bless Bum’s Rest,” in celebration of the upcoming 250th Fourth of July. They focused on the Hamilton/Founding Fathers/1776 aspect of American history, complete with powdered wigs for all involved! Instead of the wake-up bell, we were awoken by Reveille, followed by “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Party in the USA.” Bum’s decked out the Dining Hall, complete with the “Declaration of Bum's Rest” (with Dammie’s signature bigger than John Hancock’s), the infamous fake horse, and a canoe right in the middle of everything.

At one point, we said the Pledge of Allegiance, then the Bum's campers piled into the boat and started throwing tea bags at everyone à la the Boston Tea Party. From there, it turned into a full-on Hamilton moment, with sing-alongs and acted-out performances featuring everyone from the Schuyler sisters to Ben Franklin and George Washington. At one point, Paul Revere even ran through, warning us that “the British are coming!”. Somewhere in the chaos, the horse made its way back into the Dining Hall after a year-long hiatus, which only added to the energy and excitement of the whole thing.

They led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and right after, they all piled into the boat and started throwing tea bags at everyone à la the Boston Tea Party. From there, it turned into full-on Hamilton, with sing-alongs and theatrical performances featuring everyone from the Schuyler sisters to Ben Franklin and George Washington. At one point, Paul Revere even ran through the Dining Hall, warning us that “the British are coming!”.

The older girls look forward to getting to do this tradition for years, and all in all, it’s one of our most entertaining traditions and special way to close out the session with lots of fun and silliness.

The Merrie-Woode Values: Spirituality

Spirituality: Camp Merrie-Woode is a place of reverence and is based in the Christian faith.

As we wrap up this first session of the summer, we are especially grateful for our time at Merrie-Woode, the Place of Rarest Beauty, and for the way that it reveals God’s presence in our daily lives. Merrie-Woode's natural beauty evokes a sense of awe and appreciation for our Creator in those who have the opportunity to observe it, especially the campers and counselors who spend their summers beneath Old Bald. Recognizing the importance of Camp as a sacred place, the first line of Merrie-Woode’s Mission Statement speaks of “a sanctuary of rarest beauty which inspires a lasting awareness of God’s presence.” Admiration of nature is often the basis of spirituality at Camp. Campers instinctively acknowledge that the many wonders of the outdoors are God’s handiwork.

This camper beautifully expresses how God designed each element of nature for a specific purpose and as a unique part of a greater whole. Through observations of nature, campers discover that they were also created by God for a special purpose, and they should not be afraid to embrace their unique qualities.

In addition to this reverence inspired by natural beauty, Camp provides many opportunities to explore how Christian faith can direct our interactions with others. In our cabins and activities, there are often learning moments when we see how qualities like kindness, patience, generosity, and forgiveness can improve our relationships. When moments of stress or conflict arise, these situations provide campers and counselors with opportunities to talk to each other about how to put these qualities into practice in everyday life. A counselor might talk to a camper about forgiving someone who said something hurtful, or a camper might talk with a friend about how to have more patience with herself when tackling a skill for the first time. From daily devotionals in Castle to Sunday Chapel talks, there are many opportunities for campers to learn qualities, such as the Fruits of the Spirit, that guide us in how we should live together.

One of Merrie-Woode’s longtime Directors, Fritz Orr, Jr.(featured in the middle image above), shared in a 2015 interview that Christianity is the foundation of life at Camp. He called it “the floor of the whole thing,” and noted that “what the kids were standing on was their faith and religion.” He emphasized that faith was not something “to beat you on the head every day, it just bubbled up every now and then.” He believed that Camp ought to be a world where Christianity could be exemplified in the way that people treat each other, and that campers would learn by watching role models living out Christian virtues in their everyday activities. We find that this concept remains relevant today, as we pursue Merrie-Woode’s Mission to nurture the physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of girls and young women through traditional camp activities and outdoor adventures.

Camp continues to be a community that encourages spiritual growth for both campers and staff. How we respond to difficult situations reveals a lot about the state of our spiritual lives. When we regularly spend time with God reflecting on His Word, we are better equipped to bring our best selves to the challenges that come up each day. Throughout the Merrie-Woode experience, we find ways that Camp continues to foster spiritual growth. As we reflect on this first session of the summer, we are grateful for the Place of Rarest Beauty, especially for how spirituality “bubbles up” at Camp and gives us opportunities to strengthen our faith throughout our lives.

Sundays at camp are very special! The rest of the week, our campers have eight activities; four they attend on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and four on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. But Sundays have a totally different schedule. Campers get to sleep in an extra 30 minutes (always a win!), and breakfast is a treat: quiche, cinnamon rolls, and even Lucky Charms! Afterward, the girls have some time to clean their cabins before we all gather in Chapel. We sing, listen to a few readings, and enjoy a skit or performance. Today, one of our ukulele classes performed “I’ll Fly Away,” with everyone singing along. We also had a camper skit acting out a Bible story, complete with sheep costumes and two designated campers playing the part of trees!

At the end of Chapel, counselors announce the Sunday activity options. These rotate each week, alongside some all-time Camp classics we offer every Sunday: the Old Bald hike, Dam Swim, and Slip ’n Slide. This week included “Breeze and Freeze,” where campers sailed for the first half and then came back to make ice cream from scratch in plastic bags. Other options included fairy house building, “grandma hobbies” (mahjong and needlepoint), paddleboard yoga! After sign-ups, lunch, and rest hour, everyone heads off to their chosen Sunday activities!

Once activities wrap up, campers make their way to Lilypad for Sunday dinner: Cookout! We all enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs picnic style on the Waterfall field. On a typical Sunday, we would meet again later in the evening for Campfire. But since this was the last full Sunday of the session, we had Follow the Gleam as our Evening Program! This is a skit about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, acted out by the oldest and youngest campers. It follows Arthur from his childhood, to his time learning with Merlin, to his eventual rise to the throne. Through the knights’ stories of their search for the Holy Grail, campers learn the importance of self-sacrifice and putting others before themselves.

After the performance, we all grab candles and walk down to the lake, where we set them afloat on the lake, representing the spirit of Merrie-Woode that we all carry with us back into the real world. This tradition has been going on for decades, and it’s always such a meaningful night, especially seeing the campers take part in something so special!

Nearly every day at Camp, campers have the opportunity to head out on one of our many out-of-Camp trips. These adventures are a chance to explore the incredible rivers, mountains, and caves that surround us while building confidence, teamwork, and a deeper connection with the outdoors. We offer trips ranging from paddling and climbing adventures to full-day hikes and overnight expeditions.

Our paddling and boating trips take campers out onto some of the best rivers and lakes in our area, including rivers like the Tuckasegee and Nantahala. Campers get to bring the skills they've learned on the lake to the whitewater and build new skills on the river. Whether they’re paddling through rapids or working together to navigate the river, every river trip offers something new! One of our most sought-after trips is Lake Jocassee, a three-day, two-night adventure with paddling, camping, and more! Campers paddle across crystal-clear waters to an island campsite. They spend their days exploring the lake, swimming, and soaking up the great outdoors before cooking dinner over an open fire.

Our Mountaineering program invites campers to dive into a wide range of outdoor adventures. From full-day hikes and rock climbs to caving expeditions, there is something for everyone! Campers can take on everything from challenging multiple-day hikes to shorter, skill-focused climbing trips. Trips to Grimshaws, the sliding rock near camp, is always a popular trip to sign up for! Caving is one of the most unique trips we offer at Merrie-Woode. Campers journey to Worley's Cave in Tennessee, where they suit up in coveralls, helmets, headlamps, and gloves, ready to head down into the cave. Inside, they spend the afternoon trekking through the cave—bouldering along the way, wading through an underground river, and spotting stalactites and stalagmites. They'll even squeeze through a few tight spaces, proving that getting totally covered in mud is just part of the adventure(see below...).

Out-of-camp trips are easily some of the highlights of the summer. They give campers a chance to explore new places and build memories that last long after closing day. Whether it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure or a chance to practice new skills alongside new friends, these trips bring a whole new kind of magic to the summer.

Every year on the Fourth of July, we host a Carnival for our Main Session campers, and it’s always one of the highlights of the summer. Last year, we decided it wasn’t quite fair for our June campers to miss out on all the fun, so we brought the tradition to them as well. Now in its second year at June Session, Carnival has quickly become a favorite!

After the final activity of the day, the whole camp gathers at the archery field before making the walk together over to the Inn Site. Once there, everyone settles in for a picnic-style dinner, spreading out on towels and enjoying the start of the evening. After dinner wraps up, the real fun begins! The space is already set for a full-on carnival, with a slip n’ slide, inflatable slide, obstacle course, bounce house, music, and games ready to go. Face painting was a new addition, and it quickly became a favorite, even if there was a little more painting going on than we expected(in the most fun way). And of course, no carnival is complete without something sweet. To top it all off, a shaved ice truck rolls in, serving up a fun (and refreshing) surprise for everyone.

To finish out the night, we all circle up to sing Taps, a calm moment that brings everyone together after all the excitement. Then we make our way back into Camp to get ready for the night, still hyped up from all the fun (and maybe all the shaved ice). With the new face paint addition and the classic mix of grass and soap from the slip n’ slide, there was a bit of a mad dash to the showers, with everyone laughing and comparing just how messy they managed to get. It was the perfect way to wrap up a fun-filled evening!

We have been having the best time under Old Bald! It’s hard to believe the first week of the session has already come and gone.

Every Monday and Thursday at lunch, table assignments change in the Dining Hall. On the first night of camp, both campers and counselors fill out a survey with categories like birth month, favorite color, and hometown. Twice a week, we use those answers to reorganize the tables so that everyone has the chance to meet new people and spend time with campers of all ages. We don’t tell them the category when they switch tables, which makes it even more fun! Each table has to ask questions and gets to know one another while trying to figure out what they all have in common.

For this past rotation, we grouped everyone by their hometowns! In a more recent tradition, we play songs in the Dining Hall for each state represented. When your state’s song comes on, your whole table jumps up and runs around the Dining Hall. With songs like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Sweet Caroline” for the Carolinas, and even “International Love” for our international campers and staff, it makes lunch that day very eventful!

We also had a camp-wide favorite Evening Program this weekend: Talent Night! Whether it’s a skit, a dance, singing, or playing an instrument, our Merrie-Woode girls always have so many talents to share. It’s so much fun to everyone step out of their comfort zones and cheer each other on. The finale of the night was the cabin of Camelot singing “Piano Man,” accompanied by both piano and harmonica. They had the whole crowd singing along and ended the night on such a high note!

At Camp Merrie-Woode, we are incredibly proud of our history. For 108 summers, we have welcomed girls and young women to the mountains of Western North Carolina to explore the wilderness, challenge themselves through outdoor adventure, strengthen their character, and make lifelong friendships. Over the course of these summers, many willing and capable leaders have stepped forward to guide the campers in their development and inspire them to become the best version of themselves. Others have devoted countless hours to establish the Merrie-Woode Foundation, ensuring that Camp will remain the beautiful sanctuary it has always been. Each in their own way has fulfilled Dammie’s Day’s vision, as she expressed it in the Merrie-Woode Plaque:

It is because there is a kindred spirit in you that you have recognized what Merrie-Woode stands for. God has given us a place of rarest beauty and since I first beheld it, I have tried to match His gift as best I could with permeating love and honesty. It is a composite thing made of all those who through the years, have loved it and given it their best.

Camp’s enduring strength comes from the many people who have placed their talents and faith in the service of Merrie-Woode. Many stories captured in Merrie-Woode’s Centennial Book,

Over the course of several years leading up to the Centennial, a team of dedicated individuals, led by alumna Dorothy Moss Williams, pieced together letters, photographs, interview transcripts, and other archival records to create a narrative that accurately captured Camp’s history. Thanks to their efforts, we can all be inspired by tales, some of which were not widely known, about Camp’s first one hundred years.

Most Merrie-Woode campers know the name Dammie Day through excerpts of her writings read at Opening and Closing Campfires. Not all are as well-acquainted with the traditions that she created, such as changing the name from Lake Fairfield Camp to Camp Merrie-Woode in 1922. Dammie was also responsible for introducing British lore to Camp, including Follow the Gleam and the many references to Arthurian legends. Dammie saw Merrie-Woode in a greater context than just a summer camp; she wanted Merrie-Woode girls to see themselves as members of a global community. To that end, she placed colorful cut-outs of children from all around the world in their national costumes, interspersed with Merrie-Woode campers in their uniforms, along the porches of the two-story Tajar building that she had constructed in the 1930s.

When Dammie was ready to retire in the early 1950s, she could not have identified better successors than Augusta and Fritz Orr. Fritz, Sr. was a passionate outdoorsman and led Merrie-Woode campers on many exciting adventures, including a favorite Backpacking-Canoeing-Horseback Riding. The outdoor adventures continued when Fritz Orr, Jr. and his wife, Dottie, became Merrie-Woode’s Directors after Fritz, Sr.’s passing in 1968. Apart from his many contributions to Camp, Fritz, Jr. advocated for protection of the Chattooga River. Together with fellow Camp staff member and future Director, Hugh Caldwell, Fritz, Jr. guided two Georgia governors, Lestor Maddox and Jimmy Carter, on separate trips down the Chattooga, making such an impression that in 1974, the Chattooga River became the first river east of the Mississippi to receive protection as a Wild and Scenic River.

The legacy of Dammie Day, the Orrs, and Hugh Caldwell continue to influence Camp in the present day. While Hugh was best known for his brilliant paddling skills and hilarious pranks, he especially loved classical music. Hugh created a fund in his will to provide Merrie-Woode campers with the opportunity to hear chamber music each summer at Camp. Now known as the Hugh Caldwell Chamber Music Endowment, Hugh’s gift funds a chamber music performance for each of our three sessions every summer.

Today’s campers are living out traditions that have endured decades beyond the lives of those who established them. In this way, we are creating a future based on the best of the past, while honoring those who have loved Merrie-Woode and given it their best. We remember those who came before us at Merrie-Woode and consider how we can honor their legacy in our current camp experience. These ideals are best expressed in a favorite campfire song,

We are already having a blast this session! The campers are settling in so nicely and really getting into the groove of Camp life. After a chilly first few days, the sun has come out, and we are soaking up every second of it under Old Bald!

Following Opening Campfire, we headed into two all-time favorite Evening Programs: Deck the Counselor and Auction. Deck the Counselor is one of the best ways for cabins to bond early on into the session. Each cabin comes together to create a skit, dance, or performance, all packed with creativity, inside jokes, and plenty of laughs that show off their cabin spirit. Auction is always a highlight! Every cabin starts with $1000 in Merrie-Woode dollars and bids on highly sought-after prizes, like front row for movie night or the chance to wear pajamas to breakfast. But not all prizes are known when they’re bidding; a handful of them are mysteries that only get revealed after they’ve been 'purhased' (like the lovely task of washing all the camp dogs!). When multiple cabins go all-in on the same item, things get intense, and counselors go up on stage for a very serious game of rock, paper, scissors while their cabins cheer them on.

This first week has been packed with fun, new friendships, and plenty of opportunities for campers to get comfortable with their cabinmates and the routine of Camp. As soon as campers arrive, the spirit of Merrie-Woode comes right back to life and everything just feels complete. We couldn’t be happier to be here together!

Opening Day can feel like a whirlwind, and our June session campers embraced every moment with joy and excitement! It was an amazing start to our summer, full of smiling faces, eager anticipation, and the sparks of unforgettable experiences. Campers had a jam-packed schedule, including activity sign-ups and swim evaluations, and they dove right in (literally and figuratively!). We wrapped up our first day together by gathering for our Opening Campfire, a special time filled with songs, laughter, and reflections on the spirit of Merrie-Woode.

As we officially kick off our 108th summer, we are filled with gratitude and pride in the traditions that continue to bring us together year after year. There is something truly magical about watching returning campers reunite with longtime friends, picking up right where they left off, and seeing new campers form friendships that will last far beyond these three weeks. The cabin bonds, shared adventures, and simple everyday moments, like our first dinner in the Dining Hall, are already making this summer one to remember.

We wanted to begin our values blog with one of the most cherished things we gain at Camp: friendship. Above all the adventures, traditions, and activities that campers experience at Merrie-Woode, it is the deep connections formed here that keep them coming back year after year. From campers to staff, these meaningful connections grow stronger each summer, creating a sense of belonging that feels like home.

There are endless opportunities to make new friends at Camp. For the younger girls, small cabin groups provide a chance to get to know others through daily interactions, such as cleaning the cabin for inspection, playing tetherball on the Front Line, or taking part in a card game during Rest Hour. During the first few days of Camp, cabinmates participate in Evening Program activities designed to build relationships, like Deck the Counselor and The Great Race. In our larger Hill Cabins, older campers expand friend groups to include girls they may not have gotten to know as well during their younger years. They connect over their dedication to the skills progression programs or bond when taking an out-of-camp trip together.

Friendships formed over multiple summers, living in close quarters, while engaging in challenging outdoor adventures, become tremendously strong. Some lifelong Merrie-Woode friends have held reunions at Camp every year for decades. From the “Silver Haired Jocks” to the “Ladies of the Lake,” these groups of Merrie-Woode alumnae prove that Camp friendships stand the test of time.

This summer, in cabins up and down the line, the seeds of friendships like these will take root. Many of these friendships will become some of the most significant relationships of these girls’ lives: future college classmates, bridesmaids, godmothers of their children, and supportive friends who will see them through even the most challenging times in the future. We look forward to seeing these new friendships grow over the course of the summer.

Boo-Whoop! Camp is just around the corner! With summer quickly approaching, we are so excited to kick off Merrie-Woode’s 108th season and welcome our campers to our Place of Rarest Beauty. As campers experience new challenges and adventures at Merrie-Woode, we will keep families connected with daily photographs and frequent posts on the Tajar Blog, sharing more about the “Why” behind our many activities and traditions.

We are intentionally starting this year’s blog posts with Merrie-Woode’s Mission and Values. They are at the heart of who we are and why we do what we do at Camp. Everything we do at Merrie-Woode relates back to the Mission in some way. It is so important that our entire community knows the fundamentals of the Mission Statement.

Merrie-Woode is a sanctuary of rarest beauty which inspires a lasting awareness of God’s presence. The Mission of Camp Merrie-Woode is to use that setting to nurture the physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of girls and young women through traditional camp activities and outdoor adventures. In this friendly, non-competitive community of simplified living, each individual is valued for who she is and who she will become.

While camp days are full of challenges, new friendships, learning new skills, and reaching higher levels of proficiency, the campers’ spiritual growth is often the most impactful part of the Merrie-Woode experience. On the final Sunday of each session, the entire Camp comes together to watch our oldest campers perform Follow the Gleam, a play about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest in search of the Holy Grail. Each knight returns and reports to King Arthur about the outcome of his search. Through their stories, the campers learn that the Holy Grail is only revealed to those who live lives of unselfish service. Each camper and counselor processes out of Chapel carrying a single candle that she then floats out onto Lake Fairfield, signifying the Spirit of Merrie-Woode that she will carry back into the world.

This idea of carrying the Merrie-Woode spirit back into the world is further emphasized at the end of our Closing Campfire. On our final evening together, as we stand around the swim dock before singing Taps, we listen to the words of Dammie’s Prayer:

God of the Hills, grant me Thy strength to go back into the cities without faltering, strength to help my neighbor who has no hills to remember.

God of the Lake, grant me Thy peace and Thy restfulness. Restfulness to carry the tired one whom I shall meet everyday; content to do small things with a freedom of littleness, self-control for the unexpected emergency, and patience for the wearisome task; with the deep depths within my soul to bear me through the crowded places, and the laughter of the sunny waves to brighten cheerless spots in a long winter.

God of the Stars, may I take back the gift of friendship and love for all. Fill me with a great tenderness for the needy person at every turning. Grant that in all my perplexities and everyday decisions I may keep an open mind.

God of the Wilderness, with Thy pure winds blow away my pettiness; with the harsher winds of winter drive away my selfishness and hypocrisy, fill me with the breaths and depths and the height of Thy wilderness.

May I live out the truths which Thou has taught me in every thought and word and deed. Amen.

These words are committed to our hearts each summer, carried with us as inspiration and a reminder that the gift we receive of our time at Merrie-Woode should be used in the service of others.

We look forward to sharing more Camp traditions, songs, stories, and memories with you during the upcoming weeks. As we count down to Opening Day, we will highlight all of Merrie-Woode’s eleven Values: Wilderness and the Outdoors, Simplified Living, Challenge, Play, Spirituality, Integrity, Community, the Individual, Friendship, Our History, and Service. We will take a look into how these Values show up in daily life at Camp.
