Great care has been given to developing a way to manage the countless camp photographs, film footage, Logs, Ripples, letters, songbooks, business documents, textiles, and ephemera that Merrie-Woode has accumulated over the years. The Centennial Archives will have climate-controlled space with appropriate storage systems and a comfortable place for alumnae to gather, learn about Merrie-Woode’s rich history, and enjoy the wonderful memories triggered by camp treasures. To donate an item to the Archives, please email lindsay@merriewoode.com. We are currently in search of any Ripples from the 1940s and original camp uniforms predating the 1940s.
Alumnae – we want your stories – long or short! In developing the Centennial Book, we realize we have only scratched the surface of the hidden treasures out there among our alumnae in terms of Merrie-Woode stories. Everyone has favorite camp memories, whether it’s a campout that went awry, a favorite meal in the Dining Hall, or your memories of people like Dammie, the Orrs, and Hugh. We want to collect your memories into an oral histories collection in the Centennial Archives.
Send your stories to Dorothy Moss Williams at mosswilliams@me.com or Camp Merrie-Woode, ATTN: Dorothy Williams, 100 Merrie-Woode Rd., Sapphire, NC, 28774. We are excited to see this collection grow and be used for any number of history projects in the future.
