CAMPERS ALWAYS MERRY, ALWAYS WIDE AWAKE…
I started off my day with a brisk walk down the camp road. As I walked back towards camp, a trip van passed by me with kayaks and canoes trailing behind. The last river of the session was headed out for a day on the whitewater.
In Castle this morning, mountaineering announced that they were going to be taking a caving trip tomorrow! Ten of the oldest campers signed up and took a skills class to prepare them for the adventures of Worley’s Cave in Tennessee. Crawling through mud and exploring tunnels in the dark? Sounds like my cup of bug juice!
Another fun event that happened this morning was a hula hooping class! I scurried down to Lily Pad to join the action. The girls were experts by the end of the class and even got to make their own hoops! I decorated one of my own with lots of brightly colored duct tape to use for a hooping extravaganza tonight on top of Old Bald after Taps.
Hooping was so invigorating that I decided to run over to a landsports class. They were playing cricket with some of the international counselors! Cricket is such an amusing game to watch when you’re a Tajar. I ran back and forth between the stumps, and no one even saw me! We played until the lunch bell rang and called a Merrie-Woode tie at the end of the game.
At lunch, there were more announcements of unique opportunities for the afternoon. Twelve lucky campers learned how to make silver leaf pendants. I hung around the Arts & Crafts hut to watch the girls turn small pieces of nature into beautiful jewelry. The process took up the entire afternoon, but the girls worked so hard!
Looking back, my favorite part of today was the Talent Show! I always love watching the girls perform dances, sing melodies, and show off their tumbling skills. Tonight we had a variety of talent including ballroom dancing, singing, and interpretive dancing! A guitarist took the stage as well as a flautist, and one camper even played the recorder for us! It was so exciting that my usual spot in the rafters didn’t even suffice, because I wanted to be right up there on stage with the brave young ladies! One of these days, I need to remember to sign up for Talent Night and show off my dance moves.
Off to listen to a night concert (quite free),
