I SEE THE MOON, AND THE MOON SEES ME
Early this morning, I heard a rumbling down by the waterfall field. The sun wasn’t even out, and I was quite frazzled as I saw the first caving trip to Worley’s Cave hit the road. I looked at my alarm clock and saw that it was 5:45 in the morning! This is a popular mountaineering activity that is offered to some of the older campers. After morning Castle, I saw smoke coming from the campfire ring. I swung from the top of the trees and saw from a distance that there was a fire-building class going on. The girls were learning how to make basic outdoor cooking fires, which is an essential skill if they want to go on a multi-day backpacking trip.
This afternoon there were many trips that were making their way back into camp. A van full of campers and staff came back from tubing down the Upper French Broad. On a hot day like today, this is a great way to cool down. Speaking of cooling off, the Would-Bes took an all day paddling trip down the Nantahala. I have heard from many that the water is frigid, but paddlers from all over come to run this river. The Nantahala is where the 2013 Freestyle Kayaking World Championships were held!
Tonight’s evening program was Movie Night! Everyone gathered in Castle to watch a camp favorite, “The Parent Trap!” Everyone was singing along to Nat King Cole’s song “LOVE” and quoting the memorable lines of the movie. I, of course, snagged my usual spot in the rafters with a box of popcorn and was able to enjoy one of my favorite movies. It’s hard not to love a movie that has a summer camp in it! I even think I saw a glimpse of the Tajar who lives at Camp Walden!
Let’s get together, yeah, yeah, yeah!
