BELIEVE IT OR NOT…
What an exciting day at beautiful Camp Merrie-Woode! I woke up to a multitude of birds singing as I made my way down into camp this morning. I headed to the barn first thing this morning and got to see counselors teaching campers a multitude of skills; one class was working on figure eights in the ring, and the instructors were encouraging the girls to challenge themselves to hold the horses in perfect form. Visiting riding this morning sure got me pumped up for Sunday’s Drill Team performance. I wonder which song they have chosen to accompany the drill?
As I wandered back up the camp road, I saw an intense game of capture the flag happening on the landsports field. I was so tempted to steal the flag that was tucked behind the soccer net and move it to trick the other team. I resisted, though, mainly because I was worried that my bright orange coloring against the lush green field would be too visible and the campers would see.
The Starmate level boaters started running the kayak slalom course today for time! They alternated turns working on situation rolls in the sandy rolling area and zooming through the course. I am extremely impressed with how motivated and disciplined these girls are; as I was walking away, I’m pretty sure I heard someone pass!
Tonight’s evening program was Captain Rainbow! Captain Rainbow is camp’s favorite mime, magician, and comedian who sparks inspiration, laughter, and appreciation for imagination in girls from Du Kum Inn to Senior Staff. The girls danced the night away, and from what I could see, there were smiles on everyone’s faces.
I’ve got a private lesson with Captain Rainbow now. While I often dance in the moonlight, I think it’s time to add the moonwalk to my repertoire, and I noticed that he’s a pro!
